Liebster Award

liebster

It’s with great pleasure that I announce that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award, but wait what is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is an online award for bloggers to gain more support, recognition and just to get to know the person behind the blogger. It also helps others to discover new blogs and to build a sense of community in the blogging world.

I was nominated by Alicja Johnson (Reel Red Reviews), Jakob Lewis Barnes (JumpCut UK) & Andrew Garrison (The Movie Guy 14). Thank you guys all so much, you make me blush. If you haven’t already check out their sites right now! This isn’t the first time I’ve been nominated for the award though, nearly two years ago I was also nominated. If you want to delve into the real depths of HCMovieReviews you can check it out HERE, but be warned I was still fairly new to the blogging game then!

How does the Liebster Award Work? Here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers that you think are deserving of the award
  • Let the bloggers know you nominated them
  • Give them 11 questions of your own

Alicja’s Questions

1.What is your favorite movie from 2015?
My favourite film from 2015 is without a doubt ‘Ex Machina’. Every aspect of it is wonderful with three fantastic central performances from Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson.
2.What are your most anticipated movies for this year?
In a year where many are anticipating the many superhero movies and new Star Wars spin-offs I’m actually anticipating some films with smaller scales such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Hail Caesar’ and ‘Eddie the Eagle’.  A lot of my other anticipated movies have actually already past though like ‘The Hateful Eight’& ‘The Revenant’.
3.Biggest Disappointment (movie or TV show) from 2015?
Whilst ‘Spectre’ is certainly not a bad film I’d be lying if I answered with anything else. I wanted it to be my favourite film of the year and I kind of expected it too. For me it was so tonally different to the rest of Daniel Craig’s era of Bond so far, meaning it couldn’t live up to his previous outings.
4.
What celebrity do you think you’d get along really well with – who could be your best friend?
I’m not too sure to be honest, I don’t follow actors/actresses in their personal lives the same way I’d chart their careers but one of my favourite actors is Oscar Isaac. He’s had a great variety of roles and he just seems like a sound lad. Or maybe Steve Carell, he genuinely seems like the nicest guy in show business.
5.
Do you have a celebrity lookalike? If not, is there a celebrity you’ve always imagined yourself being like?
Probably The Rock…only if he’s a liar though because I have no celebrity lookalike.
6.
Do you have a travel bucket list? What are the top three places you’d like to visit?
In all honesty I don’t really have a great desire to travel, I’m pretty happy where I am. I certainly don’t have the travel bug that many others have. If you’re offering me full expense paid trips though I’d say; China, India & Canada.
7.
Name your ideal comfort meal.
Spicy pizza for sure, followed by white chocolate chip cookies.
8.If you could choose any epic movie death, which way would you go?
Definitely death by shark attack.
9.Which fictional town (or school, like Hogwarts) would you choose to live in?
Maybe Woodsboro from the ‘Scream’ series, there are so many other hilrious residents there already but on seconds thought they’ve all been killed and I know I wouldn’t last long in a horror movie setting. So I’ll actually go with Berk from the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ movies, why you ask? I’d get a dragon.
10.
What’s the first movie you remember seeing?
I’ve a real bad memory for this, I’m sure I saw plenty of animations when I was a kid!
11.
How long have you been blogging for, and why did you start?
Almost 3 years now, I remember sitting in my room wanting to talk about movies so I wrote a review for the Tom Cruise sci-fi flick ‘Oblivion’ and I just never looked back.

 Jakob’s Questions

1.Which actor would you pick to play the lead in a biopic of your life?
I’m gonna go for Taron Egerton, he doesn’t look all that like me but he’s a great actor and could probably be made to look my age for most of the significant moments of my almost 22 years on this planet.

2.What’s your favourite film of all time?
I have a vague list of my all time favourite movies, however this is an always changing list. The top spot could be taken by around 3 or 4 movies but it’s ‘Fight Club’ which has been at the top for the longest.

3.What’s the first ever film you remember watching?
I’ve a real bad memory for this, I’m sure I saw plenty of animations when I was a kid!
4.Do you prefer watching films at home or at the cinema?
I do love the massive screens and blasting sound you get from going to the cinema but these days most of my trips are ruined by idiots who don’t know how to behave so I’ll have to opt for the house.

5.What is your favourite quote from a film?
I do love all the epic and badass quotes from film history however I seem to relate most to the more stupid ones. For example I love it when in ‘Jaws’ the guy responds to hearing that the shark that’s been caught is a Tiger Shark, “A what?”. Random I know, I also like basically everything Jake Gyllenhaal says in ‘Nightcrawler’, “Steady hands”. My favourite though just might be “Put that cookie down, NOW!” which comes courtesy of Arnie in ‘Jingle All The Way’.

6.Who is the coolest film character of all time?
I haven’t often thought about this but some of the characters I think are the coolest are Bruce Wayne/Batman, James Bond, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Tyler Durden & Rama from ‘The Raid’ movies.

7.Generally speaking, what is your favourite genre of film?
Very tough question, there are a few that I really enjoy but it would be the thriller that I like the most. Films like ‘Prisoners’&’Seven’ are only some of the films from that genre which should explain my choice to you.

8.If you could interview any actor/actress/filmmaker, who would you pick?
This would terrify me, I know I’d be hopeless at this and especially because the first person that springs to mind is Quentin Tarantino.

9.Do you want to work in the film industry, and if so, in what capacity?
I have to admit I’m much more interested in watching films than making them, I suppose this is probably due to the fact I don’t really know exactly what making a movie entails. So I’d love to be a full time critic but I’d be open to being involved in film-making in some capacity in the future.
10.It seems that every film gets a sequel/remake these days, but which one film should never be messed around with?
We’re going back to my favourite film for this answer, ‘Fight Club’ should not be touched. Sure we’re not even meant to talk about it!

11.Which 2016 film are you most excited about?
In a year where many are anticipating the many superhero movies and new Star Wars spin-offs I’m actually anticipating some films with smaller scales such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Hail Caesar’ and ‘Eddie the Eagle’.  A lot of my other anticipated movies have actually already past though like ‘The Hateful Eight’& ‘The Revenant’.

 Andrew’s Questions

1. What films in 2016 are you looking forward to?
In a year where many are anticipating the many superhero movies and new Star Wars spin-offs I’m actually anticipating some films with smaller scales such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Hail Caesar’ and ‘Eddie the Eagle’.  A lot of my other anticipated movies have actually already past though like ‘The Hateful Eight’& ‘The Revenant’.
2. Favorite movie of 2015?
My favourite film from 2015 is without a doubt ‘Ex Machina’. Every aspect of it is wonderful with three fantastic central performances from Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson.
3.
What are some of the films of the last decade that you consider likely timeless classics?
‘Casino Royale’, ‘The Departed’ & ‘Inglourious Basterds’.
4.
What is a Biopic you wish existed?
What I like best about biopics is learning about someone I knew very little about before so I’d rather watch one about someone I knew nothing about so wouldn’t have anyone in mind  but maybe someone from the film industry as I recently really enjoyed ‘Trumbo’.
5. Favorite fictional character?
Spider-man/Peter Parker.
6. What is the first movie you saw in theaters?
The first one I remember seeing in theatres was ‘Jingle All The Way’.
7.Which films did you enjoy more than the book/series?
I read very few books and even fewer before a movie comes out however I think I enjoyed ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ film more than the book, both are great though.
8.What is a novel or series you’d potentially enjoy seeing become a film.
As I say I really don’t read so there’s nothing I really know of so just whatever thriller style novels are popular at the minute!
9.Have we become over-saturated with superhero/comic book movies now?
I don’t think we’ve become over-saturated with them I just think that they have developed into their own genre. Before and in the early days of the MCU when we got a superhero movie it was a real treat but now we get so many each year, I’m not complaining though.
10.What is your favorite indie-film?
I’m not sure if it was independent but I loved 2014’s ‘Frank’.
11.Are there any places you hope to travel to?
In all honesty I don’t really have a great desire to travel, I’m pretty happy where I am. I certainly don’t have the travel bug that many others have. However, if I had the chance to go anywhere  I’d say; China, India & Canada.
